President Prabowo Subianto has launched several flagship programs aimed at accelerating poverty eradication in Indonesia. These programs, such as Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih/Kopdes), are designed to create job opportunities and promote economic independence among the population.
Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), Budiman Sudjatmiko, emphasized that these initiatives go beyond mere social assistance. President Prabowo aims to empower individuals and communities, enabling them to become economically self-reliant. Using a football analogy, Budiman described the government’s role as ensuring that the ball moves smoothly towards achieving the goal of poverty eradication.
The People’s School program, which provides boarding-based education, aims to break the cycle of poverty by offering children new opportunities and aspirations. Meanwhile, the Free Nutritious Meals and Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives programs are expected to bring economic benefits to entire communities. These initiatives are set to create millions of jobs and boost demand for various sectors, such as farmers, SMEs, and village-owned enterprises.
Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, highlighted the tangible impact of these programs on poor households. By removing middlemen from supply chains and providing access to affordable credit, the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives program helps improve the economic prospects of individuals and communities. Through these initiatives, President Prabowo aims to accelerate poverty eradication and promote economic independence across Indonesia.
