Semangat “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” dalam Kostum Paralimpiade Paris 2024: Sebuah Karya Masterpiece oleh Didiet Maulana

The 2024 Paris Paralympics, scheduled to begin on August 28, 2024, will highlight the determination and hard work of Indonesian Paralympians. As preparations are underway, one crucial aspect being finalized is the design of the costumes for the Indonesian contingent. While Didit Hediprasetyo was responsible for designing the costumes for the 2024 Paris Olympics, this time, the task has been entrusted to Didiet Maulana under his brand, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana. The costumes draw inspiration from the concept of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity), serving as the foundation for the designs.

In collaboration with Mills, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), and the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC), Didiet Maulana has presented a collection consisting of jackets, jerseys, and track pants. These designs not only focus on aesthetics but also embody the values of unity and diversity that are synonymous with Indonesia. Didiet Maulana explained in a press release on August 26, 2024, that the concept of “Sandya Niskala” is inspired by Indonesia’s diverse cultures and the unifying values of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.

The “Sandya Niskala” design series features elements of traditional ikat weaving, symbolizing the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture, in alignment with the vision of Didiet Maulana’s brand founded in 2011. The design incorporates geometric patterns resembling dynamic ocean waves, reflecting Indonesia’s identity as an archipelagic nation. Motifs inspired by the Garuda Pancasila, the national emblem of Indonesia, are also included in the design to denote the strength, unity, and solidarity of the Indonesian nation.

The colors chosen for the costume design hold symbolic significance, with red symbolizing courage, white symbolizing purity, gold symbolizing grandeur and glory, and touches of grey symbolizing responsibility. Through this color scheme, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana aims to infuse an energetic and hopeful vibe for the Indonesian athletes competing in the Paralympics.

To commemorate the launch of the collection, Didiet Maulana held a photo session with Indonesian Paralympians participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, such as athletes from Para Powerlifting, Para Badminton, Para Cycling, Para Swimming, and Para Archery. The photo session, themed “Embrace and Celebrating Our Athlete,” aims to celebrate the dedication and spirit of the athletes representing Indonesia on the global stage.

Didiet hopes that the “Sandya Niskala” collection will not only symbolize unity and diversity but also inspire and empower the athletes as they compete, embodying a sense of unity and sportsmanship. The collection will be accessible on social media platforms and available for purchase through Mills coinciding with the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympic Games.

In conclusion, both Didiet Maulana and Didit Hediprasetyo have played significant roles in designing costumes that are not only functional but also carry profound meaning, conveying messages of pride and unity for Indonesia on the international stage.
