Prabowo Subianto: Notes on Pak Sutiyoso’s Military Career
Pak Sutiyoso, a graduate from the ’68 Academy, is known for his extensive experience in military operations. Prabowo Subianto, a former Lieutenant General of the TNI, recounts his encounters with Pak Sutiyoso during their service in the military.
Despite being in different groups and rarely crossing paths, Prabowo acknowledges Pak Sutiyoso’s involvement in various operations, including infiltration missions in East Timor under the leadership of Pak Dading Kalbuadi. Pak Sutiyoso is described as a humorous individual with a passion for shooting moving targets.
During his time as the Operations Assistant of Kopassus, Pak Sutiyoso proposed for Prabowo to become the Commander of Pusdikpassus in Batujajar. Although Prabowo aspired to lead the prestigious 17 Airborne Brigade, he agreed to Pak Sutiyoso’s proposal in order to influence and improve the quality of Indonesia’s elite forces.
As Prabowo assumed the role of Commander of Pusdikpassus, Pak Sutiyoso provided considerable support. Known for his patriotism and sense of humor, Pak Sutiyoso played a significant role in mentoring and guiding Prabowo throughout his military career.
